


A lot of people were shocked at how I ‘abused’ my jade pieces.
I always think that beautiful jade pieces should be worn and admired. They are hard and strong enough to be worn daily. Other than going to the gym, I never take off my jewellery when I am outdoor or in bed.
Today was a lovely day and I managed to do some gardening. My next door neighbour came over for a chat, like all women, we tend to admire each other’s trinkets, she was shocked that I was wearing a very expensive looking bangle while cutting grass. Nothing wrong with that, unless I were to fall over and my bangle hit something hard, then there might be a chance of damages.
All of us have something special tucked away for that special occasion. However, when is that going to be??
I like to wear mine whenever I like it, to admire it being worn. For my own pleasure and not just to be tucked away for that one or two occasion. In fact, wearing jade for a long time also has the effect of absorbing body heat and the jade itself will become transparent and bright.
Way before the Qing dynasty, Jade includes Xinjiang Hetian jade, Lantian jade, Xiu jade aka serpentine, Duyu, even agate was classed as Jade. However, these are nephrite. Jadeite was later classed as Jade during the Qing dynasty.
Nephrite jade has a lower density and a relatively loose structure. After being worn for a long time, the sweat, oil and other secretions of the human body will penetrate into the inside of the jade, changing its appearance, giving it a lustre, and even appearing full of fats after a long time. The appearance of nephrite jade can also be greatly changed in a short time by rubbing.
There is a Chinese saying, 玉养人,人养玉 Jade feeds people, people feed jade but this only refers to nephrite.Due to their lower density, their molecules are looser.
In the practice of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it has been proven that jade has the effect of calming the heartbeat, thus lowering blood pressure, and at the root of it all stabilizing emotions.
This is a compounding effect that reduces irritability and relieves stress.
As one thing leads to another, a calm mind and body also inherently result in a better memory, because the body and mind are less occupied or burdened with thoughts and emotions.
So start wearing your jade more often, feed it and give it a nicer sheen.
